First test track throughout Germany switches to new security standard PKI v1.3.1

The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is moving forward with the step-by-step migration of traffic light systems to the new PKI version 1.3.1 and the automatic request of certificates. With immediate effect, all traffic lights on the TAVF track are equipped on the basis of the latest security standard ETSI TS 103 097 v.1.3.1. This makes the test track a German-wide pioneer in IT security for automated and connected driving. 35 experts discussed the data model of the TLF-specific interface

At a webinar on April 9, the current status and the planned interface for data provision in the Traffic Light Forecast (TLF) 2.0 project were presented. The TLF 2.0 project builds on the successfully completed pilot project Traffic Light Forecast. The aim of this project is to develop and implement an interface for the non-discriminatory provision of traffic light data via the Urban Data Platform Hamburg (HH_UDP). The platform should be usable for innovative applications of different providers of forecasting services. Traffic Light Forecast 2.0 (TLF 2.0) - Webinar on 9 April 2020

The TLF 2.0 project builds on the successfully completed pilot project Traffic Light Forecast. The aim of this project is to develop and implement an interface for the non-discriminatory provision of traffic light data via the Urban Data Platform Hamburg (HH_UDP).

With this approach, market entry barriers are kept as low as possible and the development of new services is encouraged. These services can contribute to a stabilisation and optimisation of traffic flow and at the same time to a reduction of pollutants. 25 experts discussed in the virtual SPaT/MAP workshop

In the function of the office for TAVF, ITS mobility together with the City of Hamburg successfully organised a virtual all-day workshop on SPaT/MAP on 25 March 2020. More than 25 experts, including vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, system providers and municipal infrastructure operators, took advantage of the opportunity to exchange ideas. The topic was the digital provision of information on the current and future traffic light signal and the existing road topology and therefore the basis for automated and connected driving in urban areas.

Equipped traffic lights as of January 2020

In Hamburg, ITS is continuously making progress: For more than a year, the test track for automated and networked driving in Hamburg (TAVF) has been established in the city. By now, 6 use cases are being tested by external partners on the test track and 18 traffic light systems are operated with the WLAN-based communication unit according to the 802.11p standard (ITS G5). In addition, six of the systems enable the forecast of the light signal.

Volkswagen takes positive balance after six months at TAVF

For the last six months, the Volkswagen Group has been testing automated driving at the TAVF in Hamburg with five E-Golfs equipped with more than 30 laser scanners, cameras and radars.

 

On 6th November Volkswagen presented a positive balance on the test track. Due to the complexity of the test track in the city of Hamburg, Volkswagens has been able to receive valuable information since the early part of the year, for example about significant speeding violations by car drivers, pedestrians walking over red traffic lights or cyclists on their way beyond the designated routes. New user for TAVF - Ibeo Automotive Systems

Ibeo Automotive Systems joins the test track for automated and connected driving in Hamburg as a new user. Ibeo is the sixth user of the test track as a Hamburg specialist in the field of environment detection using laser scanners, LiDAR for short (English acronym for Light Detection And Ranging). As a global technology leader in this field, Ibeo has been actively conducting research and development of automated and connected driving for many years. This progress involves numerous test kilometers of autonomous driving with modified series vehicles on public roads. From the end of 2019/beginning of 2020, Ibeo will use the excellent conditions on the test track for the further development of the systems in urban traffic.

Continental is a new user for TAVF!

Continental joins the test track for automated and connected driving in Hamburg as a new user. This makes Continental the fifth user of the test track. From the beginning of 2020, Continental will test the collision warning for weaker road users based on 5G technology. With the help of this technology, the safety of all road users will be increased in the future.

Neusoft Automotives tests the two use cases GLOSA and Smart Engine Start-Stop on the test track

Neusoft is a Chinese System Provider and offers V2X solutions based on DSRC and C-V2X technology. The modular software stack, VeTalk, is hardware agnostic and serves all standards requirements for China, North America and Europe. Tests are conducted on the TAVF test track in Hamburg. The video gives a short overview of the technology and demonstrates two use-cases on the test track in practice. On the one hand the implementation of an optimal speed advisory for the driver (GLOSA), so that traffic lights in front can be passed at green. On the other hand, the influence of the start/stop logic of vehicles to avoid unnecessary engine shutdowns and resulting starting delays (Smart Engine Start-Stop).
