HEAT on street – The first Autonomous Shuttle Bus for Hamburg

On 31st July 2019, Hamburg Senator for Economic Affairs Michael Westhagemann and HOCHBAHN CEO Henrik Falk presented the trial operation of Hamburg Electric Autonomous Transportation, short HEAT, in HafenCity. A Germany-wide unique research and development project for the integration of an electrically driven, driverless shuttle bus into regular road traffic. From mid-2020, the first passengers are able to test the shuttle bus, so that by October 2021, in time for the World Congress Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the shuttle will be able to travel a 1.8 km stretch without accompanying personnel and reach several stops. Heat is connected to the test track for automated and networked driving in Hamburg (TAVF-HH). Project partners are BWVI Hamburg, DLR, IAV, Siemens Mobility, IKEM and hySolutions.
