Test track for automated and connected driving will continue to operate in the future

On 29.04.2022, the TAVF event took place on the occasion of the successful set-up of the test track for automated and connected driving in Hamburg. Experts and Hamburg's transport authority exchanged insights and experiences from the past four years. Dr. Anjes Tjarks, Senator for Transport and Mobility Change of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg opened the all-day event and confirmed to the more than 70 participants the continued operation and further development of the free and user-open test track for research purposes. Plans now include connecting the track to the Elbe bridges. The main topics for the future include the protection of vulnerable road users, public transport prioritisation at traffic lights and emergency vehicle…

The cities association OCA e.V. (Open Traffic Systems City Association) invites you to the public final event of the DiMAP project on 9 February

The mFUND project "DiMAP" started on 01.01.2021 with a duration of 12 months and was dedicated to the digitalisation of intersection topologies and geometries for the regular operation of cooperative transport systems.

Today, mobility takes place on a patchwork of isolated subsystems of different interest groups. Moreover, the digitisation of urban intersection information (MAP data) for cooperative transport applications is mostly solved in a manufacturer-specific way. However, MAP data are the basis for innovative mobility solutions. Since cooperative traffic applications and advanced technologies such as autonomous or largely automated driving require a solid database, the overarching goal of DiMAP is to harmonise the content of…

European Digital Dynamic Mapping (EDDY) - Public Kick-Off Meeting digital on 19 January 2022

The Hamburg Authority for Transport and Mobility Transition (BVM) together with the project partners invites you to the digital, free and public kick-off meeting in the research and development project EDDY.

In November 2021, the three-year research and development project EDDY started under the leadership of the Hamburg Authority for Transport and Mobility Transistion (BVM), which is working with six partners from research and SMEs as well as with other major European cities to develop standards for openly accessible high-resolution dynamic map data. Up to now, such maps have been the property of large navigation services. EDDY will provide the basis for cities, municipalities and local authorities to make the data themselves publicly…

TAVF test track: What's next in 2022?

Hamburg continues to make progress in the field of ITS: Since 2018, the city of Hamburg has been operating a free, open, manufacturer-independent and several kilometre-long test track for automated and connected driving.

The test track is continuously operated as an open user platform where more than 16 research institutions, vehicle manufacturers and technology companies are currently testing innovative mobility services, such as automated driving functions or safety assistance systems, in a real traffic environment on public roads.

In total, more than 50 traffic lights and the Mahatma Gandhi Bridge have been equipped with communication units (R-ITS-S based on ITS-G5) and a corresponding digital information provision. Thus, more…

ITS research project on dynamic map data has started and will also be tested at TAVF

In November, EDDY (European Digital Dynamic Mapping), a three-year research and development project led by the Authority for Transport and Mobility Transition (BVM), started. Together with six partners from research and SMEs as well as other major European cities, EDDY is developing standards for openly accessible high-resolution dynamic map data. Up to now, such maps have been the property of large navigation providers. With EDDY, the basics are now being provided so that cities, municipalities and local authorities can also make the data themselves publicly available in an Urban Dynamic Map in a public interest-oriented manner.

High-resolution, dynamic maps are needed for the guidance of urban traffic, for example in route finding,…

ITS World Congress 2021 in Hamburg: fka tests and presents automated driving along the TAVF

As part of the EU project L3Pilot, fka GmbH has already been able to test automated driving functions on public roads in Aachen. At the end of the project and at the ITS World Congress 2021, fka travelled to Hamburg with its test vehicle. Visitors to the congress were able to experience an automated ride in the fka test vehicle on the TAVF. In the weeks before and during the event, fka tested around 1000 km in urban areas, gaining valuable experience that can be used to further develop and safeguard automated driving. The drives took place on a 1.5 km section of the TAVF around the exhibition grounds and were always piloted by a safety driver.

The vehicle used for this purpose is specially equipped for the development and testing of…

ITS World Congress 2021 in Hamburg: T-Systems presents the Traffic Light Assistant

When traffic lights give drivers speed recommendations and the driver follows them, this reduces fuel consumption. This is demonstrated by systems such as the Green Light Optimised Speed Advisory (GLOSA). How this can work was tested as part of the "Real Lab Hamburg" projects. The focus of the project was not only on passenger cars but also on cyclists and e-scooter drivers.

At the ITS World Congress 2021, the Traffic Light Assistant from T-Systems was presented as an Android and iOS app. The app provides phase and forecast information on traffic lights in the test field for automated and connected driving (TAVF) in Hamburg. The traffic light assistant processes both location-based and map-based information for this purpose. It…
